Text Box: Our Story

Our Story

City Peanut Shop is a locally owned and operated family business opened in November of 2009 in the heart of downtown Boise. City Peanut pays homage to the classic Planters Peanut Shops that opened across American in the 1930s through the 1970s. A handful of these aromatic shops have been in continuous operation for 60+ years, and have served multiple generations of the same families. As a child, Dan Balluff visited the Peanut Shop in Lansing, Michigan, with his parents, who patronized the shop during their own childhoods. With a strong desire to help make downtown Boise more eclectic and encouraged by his father to build a shop that would create this experience for a new generation, Balluff has stepped out of his cubicle, left airport security lines behind, and opened City Peanut, near the corners of 8th and Bannock Streets.

Our Values

We strive to deliver fresh and delicious nuts, snacks and candies to our customers. And we strive to be an active, positive member of downtown Boise.  We believe that a strong downtown core is vital to the health of a community.

City Peanut supports other local companies. We carry a variety of locally made products like Dorothy’s, The Rocks bottled water, glass from Sustainable Futures  and will add more as we grow. We have established direct relationships with nut growers and suppliers so we know where our products come from. We strive to sell local whenever possible and we re-use and recycle whatever we can. Our roasting, popping and corn-treat equipment was manufactured in the heart of the American Midwest. Our goal is to help make City Peanut and downtown Boise a destination for locals and visitors alike.

Thank you for all your support,

Dan Balluff
